San Ciriaco

Hurricane San Ciriaco in 1899 destroyed Puerto Rico’s coffee plantings, forcing thousands of workers off the land. Growers in Hawaii recruited many to cut sugar cane.  This gave birth to Hawaii’s Puerto Rican community.
