Century of Struggle–A Cen-Tree of People’s Movements in the USA (Poster And Study Guide Zine)

Century of Struggle: A “Cen-Tree” of People’s Movements in the USA is an epic storytelling poster published by Northland Poster Collective in 2000. With over 700 unique illustrations and collage pieces by Ricardo Levins Morales and Janna Schneider, the 24×36″ poster chronicles US social justice struggles, groups, activists, campaigns, slogans, publications and events in a narrative flow from 1900-2000.

Now in 2025, we’re commemorating Century of Struggle with the release of a companion guide: a 52-page oversize zine featuring enlarged illustrations and a deeper dive into themes represented in the poster, from the roots to the canopy. Topics include cultural work, the right to remain, strikes, alt media and even the trickster figures hidden throughout the poster, with references and questions for reflection. Preview the study guide here (screen-view PDF, not suitable for printing).
