Turkish Coffee Drinkers (Notecard)

Coffee, “the milk of chess players and thinkers,” was brought to Istanbul by Syrian traders in 1555. It percolated through Turkish society, from the Ottoman court to betrothals, divination, coffee houses and workers’ breaks. Turkish coffee remains and important social lubricant.
