Young Lords

The Young Lords Organization started out as a Chicago Puerto Rican street gang.  They became politicized under the influence of the Black Panther Party.  The Young Lords Party in New York City started as a chapter and then spun off on its own. I sold the Chicago Lords’ newspaper, Pitirre at my high school and helped with some projects (like the People’s Park, pictured in the poster).

I made this poster as a contribution to the Celebrate People’s History series. The slogan “Tengo Puerto Rico en mi corazon” means “I have Puerto Rico in my heart”.
