Crow On The Cradle (Sydney Carter)
“The sheep’s in the meadow, the cow’s in the corn/Now is the time for a child to be born/You’ll laugh at the moon and you’ll cry for the sun/And if it’s a boy he will carry a gun/Sang the crow on the cradle…”
This poster features lyrics from the 1962 song “Crow On the Cradle”, written by English conscientious objector and poet Sydney Carter (1915-2004). Created during the Cold War amidst fears of nuclear annihilation, the haunting anti-war lullaby serves as both a warning and a call to action. It speaks especially to parents and caretakers who wish for their young ones to grow up in a world of peace.
You can listen to the song performed by Judy Collins here.
