How Many Hours? (Eight Hours Meme Poster)

Ricardo’s “Eight Hours” poster with the late 19th-century militant labor movement slogan “Eight hours for work, eight hours for rest, and eight hours for what we will” has spawned a life of its own in memes – like “Zero hours for work, zero hours for rest, 24 hours for looking at my phone.” (Despite the old-time look, Ricardo actually made the original in 1997, for the 100th anniversary of the St. Paul Union Advocate Newspaper).

Besides, still today, the the eight-hour workday is far from universal. And for many, a five-day week of forty hours is much, much more time out of our lives than the bosses deserve.

With this participatory poster, the labels are blank so you can make your own slogan – and fill in the protest sign and newspaper title, too.

Note: In the “ready to hang” option for this poster, the poster itself is removable so you can fill in the blanks. If you choose the black frame option, let us know what you’d like it to say so we can write it in for you before framing.
