This poster features the title and refrain of Woody Guthrie’s 1944 song, All You Fascists Bound to Lose. Since its original popularity amidst the Nazis’ World War II defeat, the song has been repeatedly covered and adapted by successive generations of anti-fascists. It includes Ricardo’s 1979 woodcut portrait of the folk singer, who often performed with the shown handwritten message “this machine kills fascists” on his guitar.
Along the bottom of the poster is the final stanza of the song: I’m going into battle / And take my union gun / We’ll End This Slavery / Before This Battle’s Won / You’re Bound to Lose – You Fascists Bound to Lose.
